New Principal Named at Decatur High School

We are thrilled to announce that Jeremy Mitchell is taking over as Principal at Decatur High School following the retirement of Mrs. Leslie Russell. Mr. Mitchell will begin his new role effective July 1st.

Mr. Mitchell is starting his 22nd year in education. He began his teaching career at Gateway High School in Kissimmee, FL, where he taught World Geography and American Government. His passion for education and leadership led him to serve as Dean of Students and Activities Director.

After returning home to Alabama, Mr. Mitchell continued to make a positive impact on students' lives by teaching Social Sciences, Health, and PE at St. Clair County and East Limestone High Schools. In July 2021, we were fortunate to welcome him to Decatur High School as an Assistant Principal.

Mr. Mitchell holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Alabama and a Master's of Science in Education-Instructional Leadership degree from Jacksonville State University. His dedication to education and student success is truly inspiring!

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Mr. Mitchell is a family man. He is married to Carmen, who teaches at Decatur Middle School, and they have a wonderful daughter, Sarah.

Join us in celebrating Mr. Mitchell's remarkable journey and wishing him continued success as he begins this new and exciting chapter!
